Elect Cathy Vaughan to the National Pork Board

Hello! My name is Cathy Vaughan, and I am proud to have spent almost 20 years serving in Oklahoma’s pork industry. During that time, I have enjoyed advocating for our producers at every level. As I seek a role on the National Pork Board beginning in March 2024, I would be honored to have your support!

Here are a few ways I feel uniquely qualified to represent my fellow pork producers in this important role:

I am a champion of people. My pork industry career brings together three critical areas of focus for all producers: safety, communications, and sustainability. Each day I work to ensure my 200+ Smithfield Foods teammates in Oklahoma are prepared and informed to do their jobs well. Recruiting and retaining a quality workforce is one of my top priorities, and I directly impact that mission by training, supporting, and advocating for the incredible people on our farms to collectively help feed the world.

I am a passionate communicator. Whether it’s distributing free hams to my neighbors in little Laverne, Oklahoma, or educating members of Congress on what African Swine Fever would mean on-the-ground for our operations – I am always looking for opportunities to proudly share pork’s story. I enjoy relaying information between producers and our advocates like the National Pork Board, and I am confident I would use these skills to help bolster communication and collaboration among NPB and members.

I am a servant leader. Although my natural tendency can be to shine a spotlight only on those around me, I have truly enjoyed serving Oklahoma’s broader pork industry as a state board member over the past decade. Our board brings together commercial producers, animal health experts, and we recently added a show pig representative – all working together to bring unity and pride to Oklahoma’s diverse pork industry. We prioritize being active leaders in our communities, connecting with consumers in innovative ways, and putting our collective industry above individual desires. I would bring this mindset to my work with producers from across the nation if selected for the National Pork Board.

Hopefully you can see my heart is truly in representing my fellow pork producers on the National Pork Board. If you have questions about my background, my priorities, or my ideas for moving our industry forward – I would welcome the opportunity to talk more!

Thank you!

I am thrilled and immensely proud of Cathy for stepping up to run for a National Pork Board seat. Having served alongside her on the Oklahoma Pork Council Board of Directors, I’ve witnessed her active engagement in various national pork industry leadership activities like PLI, committees, and taskforces. Cathy’s commitment is evident, and I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to vote for her – she would be a true asset to the National Pork Board.

During my time working with Cathy, it was easy to see that she has a strong passion for the swine industry, whether it be commercial or show pigs. Her extensive background and knowledge of swine was impressive, but also promising as someone that is on the forefront of the Oklahoma pork industry and potentially on the National level. As a smaller scale producer I felt that she shares the same positive interest in my operation as well as the large scale commercial operations.
